Molecular Subtype Identification and Potential Drug Prediction Based on Anoikis-Related Genes Expression in Keratoconus.
Keratoconus (KC), the most common corneal ectatic disease, is characterized by progressive thinning and steepening of the cornea resulting in myopia, irregular astigmatism, and eventually vision impairment.1 It mostly occurs in people aged 15 to 25 years, with an estimated incidence of 1 per 2000 people. In present, contact lens and surgery such as collagen cross-linking, intracorneal ring implantation, and corneal transplantation are effective for KC treatment and no drug intervention can prevent the progression of KC.2 Although extracellular matrix (ECM) degradation, inflammatory responses, and oxidative stress were recognized as the key factors in the pathogenesis of KC,3–5 the pathophysiology of KC is largely unknown, and nonsurgical treatment for KC is still lacking.
