Martin Reim is a German ophthalmologist who in 1973 became the first professor (Ordinarius) of Ophthalmology at RWTH Aachen University, building the municipal eye clinic into a university department he led until his emeritization in 1996. He founded the Aachen Cornea Bank (Hornhautbank Aachen), which still operates, developed a Tenonoplasty technique for severe ocular burns, and in 1990 introduced the first excimer laser for the university eye clinic. He is a longtime board member of ACTO e.V., supporting research on ocular chemical burns. For his lifetime achievements in ophthalmology he received the Von Graefe Prize of the German Ophthalmological Society.
