Francis (Frank) A. Billson AO, FRACS, was Foundation Professor of Ophthalmology at the University of Sydney (from 1978) and founding director of the Save Sight Institute, established with support from the Lions NSW-ACT Save Sight Foundation and opened in 1986. A pioneer in saving the eyesight of premature babies, he focused on neonatal and paediatric ophthalmology and was associated with Sydney Eye Hospital, the Lions NSW Eye Bank and the children's hospitals of NSW. He received the Lions NSW-ACT Platinum Honour Award and was honoured on the Australian of the Year recipients list.
