ВОЗРАСТНЫЕ ЗАБОЛЕВАНИЯ РЕТИНАЛЬНОГО ПИГМЕНТНОГО ЭПИТЕЛИЯ: клинические и дифференциальные особенности

AGE-RELATED RETINAL PIGMENT EPITHELIUM DISEASE: Clinical and Differential Features.

Retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) represents the main support to retinal photoreceptors. This layer may be involved in many pathogenetic cascades leading to retinal diseases. Among these, age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is the most frequent subtype. Indeed, AMD is a leading cause of vision loss in developed countries.1 In AMD, RPE cells may be damaged by apoptotic, necrotic, and pyroptotic mechanisms.2–4 In addition, mitochondrial dysfunctions and autophagic processes have been also described.5,6
